Looking from Rio Del Mar Beach, the sun sets behind the SS Palo Alto, illuminating the sky with fiery colors.  The SS Palo Alto was a concrete ship built for wartime use as a tanker,  World War 1 ended before ship construction was finished and it was purchased in 1929 and brought to Seacliff Beach, Aptos, CA where it was used as an amusement center for two seasons.  The ship’s remains continue to be an important historical point of interest.
